Andy Bush was born and raised in London, England, and is both an Emmy award-winning composer of music for film & television, and a leading London-based freelance player and educator.
Andy has played Trumpet and Brass across the musical spectrum and around the world, performing live and recording with amongst others; Radiohead (Grammy award 2001), Goldfrapp, Beyonce, Tina Turner, Queen, U2, Eurythmics, Chaka Khan, Angelique Kidjo, Barbara Thompson, Mike Westbrook, Terry Riley, Lontano, Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Andy led the horn section for Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday concert in London's Hyde Park, and has recently completed work on a new album by the incredible Michael Leonhart of Steely Dan fame.
Since 1998, Andy has been active as a composer, scoring more than sixty projects for British and American network television, and for independent film.
He was awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Music & Sound at the 2004 Emmys in New York.
Andy's father, Lennie Bush, a legendary jazz and studio bassist in the UK and Europe, was his inspiration from a young age.
"...My dad used to bounce me on his knee to Grady Tate's drum solo in 'Twisted Blues' (Wes Montgomery / Verve 1965), so even though I didn't take up the trumpet until I was ten, I guess the damage was already done!"
Andy studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London and, subsequently, in the United States and he cites Crispian Steele-Perkins, Marvin Stamm and Jerry Hey as his most influential teachers and mentors.
Andy currently plays a 1974 raw-brass, 1S/2 Calicchio, previously used for many years by Jerry.
"...This horn is just fantastic. Needless to say, its r&b and studio pedigree is amazing, but for solo Bb trumpet work as part of my orchestral scoring it is also a wonderful instrument."
"It is an honour to be associated with the Calicchio name."
Andy is represented by The Kaufman Agency, Studio City - one of Hollywood's leading composer agencies.
Andy lives in London with his wife, double bassist Elizabeth Bradley and their son, Larry.
